We ran a contest a little while ago to Oink desserts. And I finally mailed off the winnings today – a selection of TCHO chocolates, which are made right here in San Francisco. The winners were from Massachusetts, USA and from Yucatan, Mexico. But! We’re still waiting to hear back from one winner. Hopefully we’ll have a new contest up later this week. Keep on oinking, friends!

Happy New Year everyone. We’ve got a new resolution… we’re going to do contests frequently in 2012.
For this one, all you’ve got to do is Oink a dessert and share it out to your friends anytime until next Monday, January 16th. Three random winners will receive an assortment of chocolates from San Francisco’s TCHO chocolatier.
Go out there and find the best desserts in your area and Oink ‘em. Make sure that when you add a new dessert that you tag it “dessert”. And make sure to share your Oink on Twitter, Facebook, or Foursquare.
The long version…
STEP 1
Get the Oink app (free) for your iPhone, if you don’t already have it. Connect your Facebook or Twitter account.
STEP 2
Find a great (or gross) dessert in your area. Add it to Oink by tapping the “Oink” button in the menu inside the app (huh!).
STEP 3
Make sure to tag it “dessert” when you’re adding the new item.
STEP 4
Rate the dessert so other people know if it’s worth trying.
STEP 5 (Important!)
Choose a sharing option in the app after you rate it and share your Oink on Twitter, Foursquare, or Facebook. Only Oinks that are shared will be considered for a prize.
DEADLINE
We’ll randomly select winners from any qualifying Oinks between now and midnight January 16 (San Francisco time PST). Get Oinking!
THE PRIZE
We’ll pick three people at random and we’ll mail each of them a selection of TCHO chocolates, made right here in San Francisco.
A FEW NOTES
- You can Oink multiple items. We’ll consider two new items per day per person, so Oinking regularly gives you a better chance, but spamming people doesn’t help.
- Only new items count! Of course we’d still love if you voted on items other people have already added, but only new items count for this contest.
- You have to share the item on Facebook, Foursquare, or Twitter through the app. It makes it easier for us to track that something has actually been shared.
- We’re happy to send the prize to anywhere where it’s legal to send chocolate in the mail (is there anywhere where it’s not??). If you win by Oinking your favorite dessert in Antarctica we’ll see if we can ship ‘em.

Woot! MacLife wrote a really positive review of Oink. One sample line: “But what makes Oink really shine is its inclusivity, as anything can be rated: from the North Star to your North Face jacket. As Oink’s community grows, its usefulness will skyrocket.” We couldn’t agree more.

Our first ever Oink contest ended Monday night and we’ve chosen the winners. We asked people to Oink their favorite coffees and share them. Hundreds of people heeded the call and we chose three of them at random.
Congratulations to Eivind Johansen from Norway, Chris Taran from Pennsylvania, and Drew Hurley from Wisconsin. They each win two bags of scrumptious Blue Bottle Coffee which is roasted mere miles from our office (and we can vouch for its deliciousness and caffeinating qualities).
We’ll be doing more of these contests in the future, so keep your eye on this blog and on our @oinkapp Twitter feed. This time the item was coffee, but send us @replies on Twitter if you have suggestions for future contests.

Woot! Business Insider just chose Oink as one of the Top 20 Startups of 2011. We’re pretty stoked to be considered among such illustrious companies like Fab and Simple. Here’s to seeing what we can do in 2012! Keep Oinking, friends.

UPDATE: The contest is now closed. We’ll announce the winners soon!
We’re going to start a series of really simple contests on Oink. All you’ve got to do is Oink something in the theme and then share your Oink on Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare. After 11:59pm Dec 5, we’ll pick someone at random and send them some delicious Blue Bottle Coffee.

The first contest is super easy: coffee. Go out there and find the best coffees in your area and Oink ‘em. Make sure that when you add a new coffee that you tag it with the word “coffee”. And make sure to share your Oink on Twitter, Facebook, or Foursquare.

THE PRIZE
We’ll pick three people at random and we’ll mail each of them 2 bags of amazing Blue Bottle Coffee, which is roasted right here in San Francisco. It’s the favorite of the Oink Team and seems to be the most popular coffee in SF according to all of the other people Oinking it in the city.

We’re based in California, so when it’s fairly warm and rainy sometimes it’s hard to remember we’re in the lead-up to the holidays. Checking Oink, it’s good to be reminded. People have been rating a ton of things under the #Christmas tag on Oink and it’s pretty darn cool to see what they think are the best parts of the season.
